J-1 Exchange Student Fall 2019 Orientation

 

August 17 - August 18 

Airport Pickup

J-1 exchange students are recommended to arrive on Saturday, August 17th from 1pm to 9pm and Sunday, August 18th from 9am to 9pm. Shuttles from ILM to UNCW campus will run from 1 pm until 9 pm on Saturday, August 17 and from 9 am until 9 pm on Sunday, August 18.

 Monday, August 19 

J-1 Exchange Student Orientation - 9:30 am - 12 pm (mandatory)

The International Student Orientation for J-1 exchange students will be held on Monday, August 19 from 9:30 am to 12 pm at Cameron School of Business, room 105. International Student Orientation is mandatory for all students on UNCW's J-1 visa sponsorship. Please bring your passport and DS-2019.

During orientation we will review visa regulations, health and safety concerns, cultural adaptation, expectations about academic life and introduce you to life in Wilmington! Please make sure to review the international exchange academic calendar here

12:10 pm - 2:00 pm Convocation Lunch and Break
2:00pm - 2:30pm Group Photo
2:30 pm - 4:00 pm International Orientation Fair & Ice Cream Bar
6:00 pm - 8:00 pm Welcome Dinner

 

International Student Orientation Fair - 2:00 pm - 4 pm (Required)

Location: Town Square, Fisher University Union (across from the post office).  

Students will be introduced to a number of resources such as

  • Advising on courses in Tech Nest
  • Campus Dining
  • OneCard
  • Student Health Center
  • University Learning Center
  • Student Accounts
  • Transportation options
  • Banking options 
  • Phone providers

Students will have the opportunity to meet fellow international students who will share about their experience as Global Seahawks.

A student-led campus tour will follow. International students will get a feel for our campus and facilities, while discussing the University with current student mentors.

Welcome Dinner - 6 pm 

Our welcome event will take place in the parking lot outside Madeline Suite and Wagoner Hall (main cafeteria). 

We will welcome the following food trucks to UNCW on August 19th at 6:00pm:

  • Poor Piggy's BBQ Food Truck
  • P T's Olde Fashioned Grille Food Truck
  • Kona Ice Food Truck - Snowballs
  • Borrowing Bin - Free gently-used items for your room
  • Special Pedals - Purchase a bicycle for the semester

There will be music, lawn games and more!
