UNCW Subject Availability for Exchange students

Before you apply to UNCW as an exchange student, please review the list below to find out if sufficient courses will be available in your field of study.

Warning: UNCW Professors will review an exchange student's transcript before granting him/her permission to take the class. If the transcript does not show that the student has met the pre-requisites, the student will not be granted permission.

Anthropology
Art & Art History
Biology & Marine Biology
Chemistry & Biochemistry Submit previous course syllabi with your requests so that UNCW professors can determine if you are prepared.
Communication Studies Specific COM courses are available on exchange
Creative Writing Occasionally, exchange students can obtain CRW 201 & CRW 203. Creative writing courses at the 300 level are UNAVAILABLE to exchange students.
English Courses with only 1 section fill quickly
Environmental Studies
Film Studies FST 110 & FST 210 are available on exchange. One additional FST course may be granted to film-studies majors.
Foreign Language & Literatures Students must take the online language placement test for German, Spanish, French and Latin courses. Please indicate if you have NEVER taken a course in a particular langauge when requesting the 101 level. 101 Language courses fill quickly and may be difficult to obtain.
Geography & Geology GGY220 - Cartography fills quickly
History Courses with only 1 section fill quickly
Mathematics & Statistics

Most MAT and STT courses will fill before exchange students are able to register.

STT courses have a pre-requisite of college level math (Algebra, Calculus, etc)

Psychology

Most PSY courses require PSY 105 - Introduction to Psychology as a pre-requisite.

Unavailable: PSY 410 - Advanced Cognitive Psychology, PSY 464 - Advanced Social and Personality Psychology. These two subjects are capstone courses which students must take before graduation. Due to the high demand, seats are only available to graduating students.

Public and International Affairs
Sociology & Criminology Most CRM courses require SOC 105 - Introduction to Sociology or CRM 105 - Introduction to Criminology as a pre-requisite.
Theatre Specific THR courses are available on exchange

& Human Services
Availability - 'average' unless specific notes are provided
Athletic Training Unavailable for exchange students - no exceptions
Exercise Science Difficult to find empty seats*
Gerontology Undergraduate courses are taught online. Exchange students are not allowed to take online classes due to their visa requirements.
Health & Health Education Difficult to find empty seats*
Recreation and Sports Management Difficult to find empty seats*
Nursing Unavailable for exchange students
Social Work Professors will thoroughly examine students' transcripts to make sure they have met the pre-requisites

*Typically, exchange students are only able to obtain one EXS, HEA, PED or REC course (one total out of the 4 subjects).

Accountancy & Business Law Professors will closely examine student's transcripts to determine if they have met the pre-requisites
Economics & Finance Professors will closely examine student's transcripts to determine if they have met the pre-requisites
Information Systems & Operations Management Professors will closely examine student's transcripts to determine if they have met the pre-requisites

Early Childhood and Special Education

Several courses will only be available as a block (all 4 courses must be taken together). Block course co-requisites will be listed in SeaNet.

Block courses should be requested ~ 6 months in advance.

Courses with field experience require that you submit a criminal background report from your home country.

Elementary, Middle Level & Literacy Education
