Departmental Honors - 50 years strong
1965 marked the first year that a UNCW undergraduate graduated "with Honors." Phyllis Boyles Collier completed a senior honors project on creativity as part of her Education degree. Since that time over 2000 students at UNCW have completed departmental honors projects.
University Honors - 20 years of honors enrichment across the 4 year curriculum
The 4-year Honors curriculum with Honors seminars and honors sections of basic studies courses was implemented in Fall 1994 with Dr. Diane Levy (sociology) at the helm of the new "Honors Scholars Program." 40 students began honors classes that fall and the first "university honors" graduates completed requirements in 1997.
