Student Health Insurance
New Incoming Student Blue User
Portal is open and closes January 31, 2023
Health Insurance is required for all UNCW students. This may be insurance that students currently have (family, employer, etc.), insurance they purchase through the school, or a combination of both plans.
Students are required to waive out of or enroll in the student health insurance plan via the online web portal at studentbluenc.com each semester
To WAIVE (if you have other coverage)
- New Student Blue User? Click Request Waiver. You will then need to provide all information to set up your account including insurance information. Please use your UNCW email to waive the insurance. Click submit.
- Your waiver request will be approved or denied. You'll get another email confirming that it was approved or denied. If denied, please review the reason and resubmit.
- If your waiver is approved, the health insurance charge will then be removed from your student account.
- Policies must be in effect from February 1, 2023, to May 15, 2023
To ENROLL (if you DO NOT have other coverage)
- New Student Blue User? Click on Enroll for Coverage button. You will then provide information to set up the account and complete the enrollment process. Please use the address that you would like all insurance information mailed to including cards and refunds.
- You will get an email with the enrollment confirmation number. Save it for your records. Your Student Blue ID cards will be mailed to the address that you provided. It is that easy!
Returning Student Blue User
The Spring 2023 Health Insurance Waiver/Enrollment portal is now open. Click here to enroll or waive.
Health insurance policies must be effective from February 1, 2023, to May 15, 2023.
In order to waive out of or enroll
- Enrolled in on-campus courses with a minimum of 6 credit hours per semester for undergraduates or 1 credit hour for graduate students
- Enrolled in a degree-seeking program and
- Eligible to pay the UNCW student health fee
Extension and distance education students please check with your program to see if you are required or eligible for Student Health Insurance.
All students will be required to complete the Enrollment or Waiver Process each semester.
To WAIVE, please have your current insurance card available (front and back).
- Already have a Student Blue account? Enter your UNCW email address to get one-time passcode to access your account. Then you request a waiver.
- Please verify and enter your insurance information.
- Your waiver request will be approved or denied. You'll get another email confirming that approval or denial. If denied, please submit with corrections.
- When approved, if you have been charged the student insurance, it will be credited from your student account.
To ENROLL:
- Already have a Student Blue account? Enter your UNCW email address to get one-time passcode to access your account. Then enroll.
- Please provide all information for enrollment including the mailing address that you would like your insurance cards to be mailed.
- You will get an email with the enrollment confirmation number. Save it for your records.

All students are eligible to use the Student Health Center, regardless of your insurance coverage. Extension and distance education students may have to pay a per semester health fee.
The cost for the Student Health Insurance Plan for 2022-2023 is $1352.08 per semester.
