The Graduate School

Information for Postdoctoral Scholars

The University of North Carolina Wilmington has adopted the definition of postdoctoral scholar from the National Postdoctoral Association:

A postdoctoral scholar ("postdoc") is an individual who has received a doctoral degree (or equivalent) and is engaged in a temporary and defined period of mentored advanced training to enhance the professional skills and research independence needed to pursue his or her chosen career path.

The Graduate School serves UNCW’s postdoctoral community, including postdoctoral scholars and their faculty mentors, through the development and implementation of best practices, policies, and activities that advance the career aspirations of postdoctoral scholars and the research mission of the university.
