A Taste of New Orleans - Laissez Les Bons Temps Rouler!
At 7 pm on Wednesday, November 30, 2005, the Graduate Liberal Studies program, with the untiring dedication and assistance of Chef Barrett Round, a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, a former New Orleans resident, and a MALS student, offered a cuisine demonstration benefit for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. Chef Round prepared live a fantastic New Orleans-style menu, including: Creole Gumbo, Shrimp Creole, and Bananas Foster Bread Pudding w/ Praline Sauce.
This event, however, was not just a demonstration but the meal itself. All attendees were treated to servings of the menu items that had been pre-prepared by Chef Round with the generous and professional assistance of UNCW Dining Services and the staff of Wagoner Hall. It was obvious from the reactions of attendees, especially when the food was served, that the event was a resounding gastronomical and social success. More importantly, it raised $1000.00 for the victims of Hurricane Katrina.
