GLS 592: Symbols: An Interdisciplinary Study

An interdisciplinary course on symbols. Texts include MIrcea Eliade's Images and Symbols, Carl Jung's Man and His Symbols, and Gaston Bachelard's The Poetics of Space. Eliade develops symbols from a cross cultural religious perspective, Jung from a depth psychological insight, and Bachelard from a poetic standpoint. Class meetings will focus on a discussion of assigned readings and symbol papers prepared by participants.
