GLS 592: Southern Culture
Instructor: Ray Mize
Southern Culture -- Exploration of major myths, values, institutions, traditions, and ideas that have defined the South and have established it as a distinct regional culture. Using short stories, novels, essays, and poetry, the course will explore the culture of the South as distinct from the nation, the sources of this culture, and its impact on the lives of Southerners. Focus will be on agrarianism, social class, race, family and gender, politics, and religion.
