GLS 592: Understanding and Interrupting a Rape Culture
This course will examine the ways in which a rape culture is formed, ignored, perpetuated, and entrenched. We will explore dominant myths about rape, issues of entitlement and power, the influences of pop culture, religion, family, the law, and gender norms. We will also analyze rape s it relates to war and the environment. Course materials will include historical and non-fiction texts, films, and various media. The course will culminate in a creative final project aimed at ending rape and deconstructing the cultural institutions that perpetuate it.
