GLS 592:Making Sense of Ideologies

Ideologies motivate people to act in accordance with simplified ideas uaually abstracted from more complex philosophical principles. Ideologues (those driven to take extreme, uncompromising and absolute ideological positions) of every sort march through history trampling on "lesser mortals" while leaving devastation in their wake. This course compares and contrasts some of the most pervasive political and economic ideologies that survive and recur time and time again. Students will delve into their core appeals and derive responses to them.
