Dorothy Gillespie: Portraits and Self-Portraits

Dorothy Gillespie: Portraits and Self-Portraits” is on display in UNCW’s Cultural Arts Building Art Gallery through Friday, Sept.1.

The gallery is partnering with the Dorothy Gillespie Foundation and the Radford University Art Museum to showcase the work of the 20th-century American Artist. This one-of-a-kind exhibition is an opportunity to view never seen Dorothy Gillespie portraits and self-portraits.

Gillespie was a well-known painter, sculptor and installation artist. She pioneered new directions for metal sculpture and is best known for large-scale, colorfully painted arrangements of cut aluminum strips that radiate or curl like giant arrangements of ribbon, enchanted towers or bursting fireworks.

In conjunction, additional venues are showcasing Gillespie art through August, including Art in Bloom Gallery, Cameron Art Museum, Thalian Hall and the Wilson Center.

CAB summer gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Thursday (closed Fridays).
