International Conference: The New Global City

Thursday, May 12

Additional Information

The conference features many events, presentations and discussions. The university invites the campus and the community to join us for the Festival of Basant, 1-4 p.m., Saturday, May 14, on the lawn near McNeill Hall. A Pakistani welcoming of spring, the Festival of Basant originated as a celebration of the spring harvest. Not unlike Wilmington’s Azalea Festival, Basant is associated with the mustard flower. It is filled with bright colors, including yellows, oranges and reds. Since its inception, Basant has grown to include a number of other traditions, most notably kite flying. We will be making and flying kites, learning native Pakistani dances, and celebrating spring with traditions from both Pakistan and the United States.
