Welcome to the
Betty Holden Stike
Education Laboratory at UNCW

The Betty Stike Education Laboratory in the Watson College of Education at UNC Wilmington is designed as a critical component of our teacher education programs. Students practice the methods they are learning in their courses by teaching a child in a one-on-one setting.

Tutoring is designed as a positive experience, focusing on the child's strengths, needs, and interests. Students are coached as they learn new strategies and skills in reading, writing and mathematics. Open communication with parents is also an important part of the Ed Lab experience.

While we use the term tutoring, the time our future teachers spend with their children is more appropriately called one-on-one instruction. Ed Lab teachers plan individualized lesson plans for each session.

Ed Lab Tutoring Information

The Ed Lab will offer face-to-face ELEMENTARY reading & math tutoring in Spring 2023. MIDDLE GRADES Literacy tutoring will also be available in Spring 2023!

Tutoring will be twice a week for a total of 20 sessions. Each session will last approximately one hour. Tutors and parents will decide on a regular schedule. The tutoring fees are $200 and will be paid using an online payment system. Because of the reduced fees, we will not offer any other discounts.
