Gather with faculty, staff, and student leaders for informal discussions of Ready Player One, the 2014-2015 UNCW common reading title. Then work together to brainstorm ideas for using the book in your courses. Come to one, two or all three!

Synergy Film: Video Games: The Movie

Video Games: The Movie is a feature length documentary that aspires to both educate and entertain audiences about video game production, marketing, and consumption. Looking at gaming history and culture through the eyes of publishers, game developers, and consumers, this film addresses what it means to be a "gamer" and where the game industry is headed. The art of the video game medium and its storytelling abilities are also addressed, as well as global culture and industry that it is a part of. This film is free for everyone.
Synergy Keynote: Ernest Cline

The author of the 2014-15 Synergy Common Reading book, Ready Player One, Ernest Cline is no stranger to the world of technology and video games. Self-described as the "Biggest Geek in History," Cline's childhood centered around comic books and sci-fi novels, Dungeons & Dragons and video arcades. A New York Times bestseller, Ready Player One takes the reader on a thrilling ride while providing a commentary on the relationship between people and technology. The book is scheduled to be adapted into a film. Additionally, Cline performs slam poetry, and his work is featured on NPR and CBC Radio.
