Commencement Assistants

Sign Up to Assist with the Ceremonies 

The Office of Transition Programs is excited to offer UNCW staff the opportunity to assist with one or more commencement ceremonies this spring. Box meals will be provided. Please complete the Commencement Assistance form by 11:59 p.m. on December 6 to be considered for this opportunity.  Selections and staff assignments will be confirmed on December 8.


Front of House Shift Opportunities 

Commencement assistants are needed to scan guest tickets, pass out programs, and assist guests who need help finding seats.  

  • Friday, December 16* - CSB/WCE Ceremony (4:45 - 8:15 p.m.)
  • Saturday, December 17** - CAS and CHHS Ceremonies  (8:45 - 12:15 p.m. and 12:45 - 4:15 p.m.)

Back of House Shift Opportunities 

Commencement Assistants are needed to help with day-of graduate name card pick-up and assist with graduate line-up. 

  • Friday, December 16* - CSB/WCE Ceremony (4:45 - 6:15 p.m.)
  • Saturday, December 17**- CAS and CHHS Ceremonies   (8:45 - 10:15 a.m. and 12:45 - 2:15 p.m.)

December 2022 Commencement Assistance Meeting 

All Commencement Assistants are required to attend the training session on Wednesday, December 14 from 9-10 a.m. in the Carolina Beach Room in the Fisher University Union.  

Commencement Assistant Compensation 

Commencement is an essential campus-wide program designed to recognize and celebrate graduates of the University of North Carolina Wilmington. This momentous occasion, welcoming more than 15,000 graduates and guests this spring requires significant commitment from faculty and staff at the university. SHRA Non-Exempt 

SHRA Exempt and EHRA 

Friday Ceremony 

*staff can choose to work either or both 

Employees should obtain permission from their supervisor to flex their time during the work week (12/12/2022 to 12/18/2022) to offset the additional time worked. (read more) 

Employees should obtain permission from their supervisor on an adjusted work schedule. (read more) 

Saturday Ceremonies 
**staff must commit to working both ceremonies 

Compensation will be based on the employee’s hourly rate for their primary assignment. (read more) 

Employees will receive $180 for front-of-house service and $90 for back-of-house service. (read more)
