School of Health and Applied Human Sciences Partnered with Special Olympics to Host Annual MedFest Event

On October 3, the CHHS School of Health and Applied Human Sciences partnered with Special Olympics of North Carolina to host MedFest, an annual event that provides Special Olympics athletes with free physicals.

Athletic training students volunteered at the event to take vitals (height, weight, heart rate and vision screening), while Physical Education and Health majors engaged in applied learning by implementing health education stations on topics like dental care, nutrition, injury prevention and yoga.

Physicals were provided to more than 100 local athletes. Several UNCW cheerleaders and even Sammy C. Hawk were on hand to welcome and cheer for the athletes as they participated in the screenings and the health fair.
