Business Core Service Team Updates

Team Personnel and Location Changes

Over the course of this past summer, the Business Core Service Team has experienced several changes involving both location and personnel.

In July 2017, the BCST fully relocated to the renovated office space in MC 1055. Please feel free to stop in to say “hi” and reacquaint yourself with our team! Our new location will remain open during regular university hours, (Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.). In the absence of a team member, our student worker staff (located at the front reception desk) will gladly assist where possible and help coordinate the best time to return. Nic Troutman and Nathan Holtsclaw have relocated across the hall from the main BCST Office, into MC 1036.

Also during July 2017, Purchasing Lead Hayley Sink accepted the position of Executive Director with ACCESS of Wilmington. At the same time, Nathan Holtsclaw was promoted from Budget Lead to CHHS Business Officer. These changes created two vacancies within the team; and subsequently have provided an opportunity to reassess roles and responsibilities to better serve CHHS. In addition to these changes, Leslie Owens moved into MC 1055 and became a member of the BCST. Welcome, Leslie!

The Business Core Service Team is in the process of interviewing candidates for our vacant positions. With the addition of two new team members, the BCST will be positioned to provide support within the following areas:

  • Facilities and Operations Management
  • Room Reservations, AIM Work Requests
  • Business Services, Financial Reporting and Budgeting
  • Post-Award Grant and Miscellaneous Revenue Management
  • Employee Onboarding, Orientation and Hiring Processes
  • Leave-Keeping and Payroll
  • Travel Authorizations and Reimbursements
  • Event Planning, Coordination and Facilitation
  • Purchasing, Contracts, Independent Contractors, Cash Receipting and Invoicing
  • Database Development and Maintenance, Application Design and Integration

Travel Updates

ATTENTION: New Travel Processes

At the start of the fiscal year, the university deactivated its homegrown travel system and launched Chrome River. As with any software/procedural adjustment, we have experienced some hiccups and missteps as we acclimated to the changes. Thank you for your patience as we have redeveloped our best practices and worked to learn new methods to better serve you.

While you will still be required to submit a CHHS travel authorization form prior to any travel pre-approvals being processed, other steps toward full-approval have changed. It is important to note that university travel without prior authorization is prohibited, and all travel pre-approvals and expense requests must route through Chrome River.

To help familiarize you with the simplified process in which you grant us access to enter your travel, monthly mileage and expense requests, as well as how you will approve such requests, we are holding three CHHS Tea Time information sessions. To prevent travel or reimbursement problems, please attend one of these sessions. The locations are yet to be determined (a formal invitation will be sent at a later date) but the dates and times are as follows:

  • Wednesday, Sept. 6, 10 a.m. – noon
  • Friday, Sept. 8, 3 – 5 p.m.
  • Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2 – 4 p.m.

If you are unable to attend one of these sessions, please email to schedule a time to visit the BCST Office for a demonstration of the Chrome River approval process and to ensure that our team members are set up as a delegate to enter travel on your behalf.
