EngageSENC Provides Platform for Faculty to List Expertise

EngageSENC.org is a community platform that allows organizations, community members, decisionmakers and philanthropic funders in Brunswick, Columbus, Duplin, New Hanover, Onslow and Pender counties to cross boundaries and collaborate on projects to improve the quality of life in southeastern North Carolina.

The website has a lot of other things to offer. You can:

  • Learn about the demographics and post events in each of the six counties in southeastern North Carolina.
  • Identify issues and initiatives that are important to the citizens and organizations of southeastern North Carolina.
  • Collaborate across geographical boundaries and diverse backgrounds to achieve common outcomes. Using team management tools, dedicated organizations can share information and resources that help partners achieve a common goal.
  • Map the organizations, demographics and resources of a given area to identify areas of concern for communities in southeastern North Carolina. Using Engage SENC’s Asset Mapping tool, you can filter local organizations by geographic area, organization type and service provided to identify gaps and areas of need in our communities.
  • Post applied learning and volunteer opportunities for those in the area, as well as discover individuals who would like to serve the nonprofit sector with our Share Resources tab.

EngageSENC.org also provides a platform on which faculty can list information about their areas of expertise. This will be a big benefit for community members and university folks alike, as it will provide a central location to let people know who you are and what you do.

Becoming a part of the faculty expertise page is a two-part sequence: create a login and then set up your listing. The login creation should take a couple minutes. The second step should take you about 5-10 minutes, depending on how thorough and quick you are. You can follow directions below or watch a short instructional video online.

First, you need to sign up to join the website.

  • Go to the site, click on “Register” in the top right, and enter your information.
  • Create a login and password. Don’t worry about adding your organization.
  • When done, click the box at the bottom to read and agree to terms of use and then click submit.

A staff member will need to approve you, and then you will get a confirmation email.

Once you are added to the website, you can log in and add your expertise area.

  • Click on Share Resources on the purple ribbon.
  • Click on the button “Add a new posting.”
  • In listing title, put your name.
  • Where it says, “I am posting a…” select “UNCW project resource.”
  • Under “I am a” select “faculty.”
  • Under type, select “Faculty Expertise.”
  • Then, complete the sections to the right.
  • Click on the arrow at the left of the box for opportunity details. List your position/title, department, teaching areas, research projects/grants, media expertise and keywords.

These keywords are important, as they are how someone will search for you. Choose as many as you like. Enter each word or phrase separately, one at a time, and hit enter after each.

  • Click on the arrow at the left of the box for contact info. Fill in at least your name and email, though phone and website are also appreciated.
