Dean’s Welcome

Happy New Year! It is so nice to see everyone back from the holidays – rested, energetic and wearing big smiles. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the College of Health and Human Services team for a wonderful fall 2016 semester. We made great progress on our 2016-17 strategic priorities. I would also like to welcome our new faculty and staff members to Team CHHS.

Our college values inter-professional collaboration, community engagement and impact, and team implementation science. These represent the pillars of CHHS. We make a difference by working together, reaching out and enhancing lives!

In addition to the strong work we are doing in teaching, research and service realms, this spring the college will focus on these five priorities:

  • Update and refine our college-level strategic plan to achieve congruency with the newly developed UNCW Strategic Plan;
  • Complete the pre-planning process for the new Allied Health/Health Sciences building;
  • Expand our curriculum by developing new degree programs as informed by the work of Education Advisory Board;
  • Conduct an analysis of our organizational structure and develop policies and procedures to enhance effectiveness and efficiencies; and
  • Conduct an analysis of our communications and marketing model.

We will need your help to accomplish these priorities. I encourage you to “Lean In” and be an active participant in the continued development of CHHS.

This is an exciting time to be a member of Team CHHS. While I am so proud of what we have already accomplished during our startup phase, I am thankful and humbled by the hard work and dedication of the faculty and staff who, collectively, are the heart and soul of UNCW. CHHS faculty and staff are simply the best! The CHHS leadership team pledges to continue our work to develop a culture that values each individual and promotes the conditions necessary for joyful work.

I am confident that 2017 will be a great year for CHHS!
