Social Work volunteers provide psychology first aid to post hurricane sufferers

SSW Faculty Led a Team of Volunteers to Provide Crisis Intervention to Post Matthew Sufferers

During the weekend of Hurricane Matthew, part-time social work faculty member Tab Ballis led a team of MSW student volunteers in providing aid to those affected at shelters in Brunswick County.

Tab has been a Red Cross volunteer for some time, and the students joining him were Michael Porter, Ann Weatherby and Kendall Tidey. The team’s primary role was providing “psychological first aid” to those experiencing distress and trauma due to the storm’s impact.
