School of Nursing Professor Penny Sauer named Nurse of the Year

SON Professor Named Nurse of the Year Award

The School of Nursing Faculty Dr. Penny Sauer has been named a North Carolina Nurses Association Nurse of the Year Award recipient in the education category.

The NCNA Award recognizes role models in education who use innovative and creative teaching strategies, demonstrate excellence in knowledge and subject matter expertise and who have a positive impact on students, staff and/or patients.

Penny, an assistant professor at CHHS, teaches Pathopharmacology and Issues, Trends and Health Policy to undergraduate students. Penny’s area of research interest is in promotion of healthy work environments. One of her nominators was a UNCW December 2015 graduate, Allie Hannon RN, who is now employed at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
