CHHS Welcomes New Staff

The College of Health and Human Services welcomes all new staff who have joined the CHHS for the Fall semester!

CHHS Receptionist Ximena Rheaume

Ximena Rheaume joined CHHS on October 1 as the CHHS Receptionist. The CHHS Receptionist serves as the initial contact person for the college and is essential to ensuring efficient and effective communication college-wide and beyond. She has been serving in this role in a temporary capacity since June of 2016. Ximena brings over ten years of reception, customer service and office support experience, and has worked for organizations such as the Florida Department of Health and Krueger International (KI). Her background also includes being bilingual in Spanish and English and working as a court interpreter in Los Angeles, California. Ximena recently moved to NC with her husband Chad.  She is active in the community and enjoys cooking and working out!

Business Services

With the 2016-17 academic year underway, you may have already had the opportunity to interact and visit with the new Business Core Service Team. The BCST is excited to have new staff members joining the CHHS and continuing the journey to sustainable excellence as the BCST continues to develop and enhance business and operations support throughout the college.

Nic Troutman (top left) joined CHHS in August as the Facilities Manager. This new role with the college incorporates project management, reservations and long- and short-term space management planning. Nic has over 15 years of experience in higher education and most recently joins us from UNCW Housing and Residence Life, where he served as the associate director of operations.  He met his wife, Allison, while attending UNCW and has two sons: Brae (a junior at Hoggard High School) and Perry (a seventh grader at Roland-Grise Middle School).

After spending four years as a successful small business owner, followed by a short period of employment with Cape Fear Community College, Nathan Holtsclaw (top right) began his journey with the CHHS Business Team in September 2016. After joining UNCW in the Office of Transition Programs in 2014, he transitioned to Academic Affairs in the Department of Music where he maintained a strong focus on budgets and purchasing. As the CHHS Purchasing Lead, he is excited to venture down this new path and looks forward to further defining the role and expectations of this position.

Lesley McCoy (bottom left) joined the BCST team in September, after spending 10 years in UNCW’s Watson College of Education. As an administrative associate, she has held roles in various units and departments in the Watson College of Education, including the Department of Early Childhood and the UNCW Teaching Fellows Program. These opportunities enabled her to develop skills in travel, purchasing, and assisting faculty with daily activities. As the CHHS Travel Lead, Lesley is excited to leverage her experience and background to assist CHHS in continuing to enhance our facilitation of the travel process for faculty and staff.

Sarah White (bottom right) has served as a member of the BCST since its inception. Recently, she accepted a new challenge as the Payroll and Position Coordinator. In this capacity, Sarah is responsible for hiring all new employees to the college, including faculty, staff and students. Additionally, she coordinates payroll and timekeeping for all CHHS employees. Her most important job responsibility is being “Nanna” to Charlotte Sabine, who was born on August 17. 

Academic Affairs Operations

As the Senior Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, it is my pleasure to introduce and welcome our new staff within academic affairs operations, led by Ms. Danielle Eastup, Academic Affairs Operations Coordinator for the CHHS. We have hired three academic affairs operations specialists who will support the college in the areas of academic affairs operations, such as enrollment management, curriculum processes and approval, student retention and progression, academic course scheduling, clinical placements, etc. We have also hired a position that will coordinate assessment activities and institutional effectiveness for the college. These positions will only enhance the excellent work that our faculty and staff are already doing to serve our students, our region and our state.

Academic Affairs Operations Team new staff

Jaci Webb-Dempsey (top left) joined CHHS in August in a half-time position as the CHHS Assessment Coordinator. In her role, Jaci supports program assessment across the three schools and at the college level. Previous to CHHS, she worked in the School of Education, Health and Human Performance at Fairmont State University in West Virginia as the associate dean for teacher education and provided leadership to the accreditation efforts and the development of FSU’s institutional assessment system. Jaci received her Master in Education degree at UNCW and stayed on as an instructor before leaving to work on her doctoral degree at UNC Chapel Hill. Her husband, Van, (who is the dean of Watson College) and she have three daughters, two of whom currently live in Wilmington.

Karen Kutta (top right) joined CHHS in September as an Academic Affairs Operations Specialist. In her role, she delivers curriculum processes & approval, academic program assessment & accreditation, academic course scheduling, student retention & progression, clinical/internship/field placement & administration and enrollment management. Karen has previous experience in higher education and most recently joins us from the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, Florida. There, she served as the events coordinator for the Office of Campus Life. In her spare time, she loves to run 5k’s and hopes to eventually build up to a half marathon!

Christie M. Hernandez (bottom left) joined CHHS in September as an Academic Affairs Operations Specialist. Previously, Christie worked for CHHS as a student office assistant (2013) and as a temporary employee (2015). In her current role, Christie works on academic course schedule building; internship/clinical placement/field placement processes; student affairs forms facilitation and other academic affairs processes. Christie married her husband, Terrence Hernandez, on August 27, 2016. They enjoy being part of both church and community, actively pursuing a healthy lifestyle, eating as much as possible and hanging out with their poodle, Mr. Fluffy, on the couch, watching their favorite TV shows. Additionally, Christie is a UNCW Cameron School of Business alumni and is in her second year of the M.S. in Human Resource Management graduate program at Western Carolina University.

Valerie Pait (bottom right) joined CHHS in September as an Academic Affairs Operations Specialist. In her role, Valerie works on process and policy implementation around academic affairs operations. She has 20 years of experience in education as a teacher in third and sixth grades and special education; a guidance counselor; and a county compliance specialist for Exceptional Children. Valerie just recently moved to Wilmington with her family. She has been married to her husband, Bobby, for over 22 years. Valerie has two children: her daughter, Hannah, is a sophomore at Appalachian State and her son, Timothy, is a freshman at Cape Fear Community College.
