Program: 3 years (36 months consisting of 161 credit hours), admits 46 students, and starts in January.

Application: Apply between July 1st and November 1st. Program admits students on a rolling basis, so apply early. An interview is a part of the process.

In-State Tuition (total): $114,240. This does not include additional costs/fees ($5,814).

  • Average GPA: 3.65
  • Average Science GPA: 3.51
  • Average GRE Scores: Verbal - 152; Quantitative - 152; Analytical Writing - 4.0
  • Health care experience: Minimum of 100 hours of observation in a health care setting with at least 20 of these hours in a physical therapy acute inpatient care or hospital setting.
  • Three letters of recommendation: 1 from licensed PT, 1 from science/EXS faculty member, 1 other.


Five of the six required science courses must be complete at the time of evaluation of the application. Grades of 'C' or better are required in each prerequisite course. No prerequisite course may be taken on a "pass/no pass" or "credit/no credit" basis. Each natural and/or life science prerequisite course must have been successfully completed within 10 years prior to January enrollment.

  • 6 Science Courses (3-credit hour course or higher with lab) The applicant must have 6 natural and/or life science courses selected from the following: Biology, Chemistry, Human Anatomy/Physiology, Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology, Biomechanics, Pathology and/or Physics. UNCW:
    • BIO/L 201 and BIO/L 202
    • BIO/ 240 and BIO/L 241 - or - EXS/L 216 and EXS 217
    • CHM/L 101 and CHM/L 102
    • PHY/L 101 and PHY/L 102
  • 1 Psychology Course (UNCW: PSY 105)
