Coleen O’Brien, DNP, CPNP – AC/PC
Clinical Assistant Professor

Dr. Coleen O’Brien is originally from Canada. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from Ryerson University, and her MSN from the University of Toronto. She practiced as a pediatric RN at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. She moved to the United States in 1994, and received her Post Master’s PNP Certificate from Duke University. She also practiced at Duke University Health System as a PNP in the Pediatric Cardiac Surgery program. Subsequently, she has held administrative, leadership and clinical roles at Phoenix Children’s Hospital and Texas Children’s Hospital. While obtaining her DNP from Minnesota State University, Dr. O’Brien practiced in the newborn nursery and as a pediatric telemedicine NP. Dr. O’Brien also participated in multiple pediatric cardiac surgery mission trips to Leon, Nicaragua from 1999-2005.

Dr. O’Brien was adjunct faculty in the Duke University School of Nursing from 1999-2012 in the PNP program and Accelerated BSN program. She was also a preceptor for PNP students at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill from 2000-2010.
