Shannon Ford, PhD, RN, CPNP, CNE is an assistant arofessor with the School of Nursing at the University of North Carolina Wilmington and a certified pediatric nurse practitioner at Lincoln Community Health Center. Dr. Ford’s primary research interests are guided by the Nursing Science Precision Health Model (NSPH) applied to stages of the NIH Symptom Science Model with specific interests in Information and Data Science Infrastructure for Precision Health.

Dr. Ford’s clinical and research work aims to improve care and care systems for children and adolescents. A special area of interest for Dr. Ford is analyzing the collective impact of interacting and coalescing biological, psychological, and social symptoms that have potential mechanisms through the gut-brain axis on pediatric health outcomes. Her work started with the development of a dynamic network analysis application for data from the NIH Adolescent Brain and Cognitive Development (ABCD) Study.

Dr. Ford’s teaching has included diploma, BSN, ABSN, and Master’s degree-level nursing students in various settings including, simulation, lab, clinical and didactic settings. She has held multiple positions on academic committees and has had experience in advising students, program-level quality improvement projects, and the design and implementation of new curriculum and courses.
