CHHS Faculty & Staff Nominated for YWCA Lower Cape Fear Women of Achievement Awards

4/19: In March, Clinical Research Graduate Program Coordinator, Susan Sinclair and Assistant Dean for Student Success, Sheri Shaw were nominated for the YWCA Lower Cape Fear Women of Achievement Awards.

The YWCA Lower Cape Fear Women of Achievement Awards recognizes the outstanding contributions and achievements of women and young leaders who are active in Brunswick, Columbus, New Hanover and Pender counties.

Started in 1985, the event raises key support for YWCA’s programs and services that promote racial justice and gender equality for thousands of women and families in Southeastern North Carolina.

Shaw said the YWCA Women of Achievement Award provides an opportunity to highlight the amazing work being done by the talented women in the community and showcases how success can be accomplished when everyone comes together ready to face the difficult challenges and have crucial conversations, coupled with positive transformation, collaboration and education.

“My life’s work has been dedicated to empowering youth,” Shaw said, “including young women and underserved students, helping to identify the strengths that will nurture leadership in their own lives, as well as serve to foster support in the lives of others. Receiving a nomination from such a pivotal organization as the YWCA of Lower Cape Fear, that is parallel in spirit and action, is such a great honor.”

Sinclair said, "I am extremely honored to be in the company of the other fabulous women nominees!"

Nominees for the award were recognized by their mentors, peers and colleagues. Winners will be announced Tuesday, May 7 at the Wilmington Convention Center.
