Morning Flow Yoga
Time:
8-9 a.m.
Location: McNeill Hall 1051
Morning is an ideal time to set intentions while consciously awakening body and mind. Connect movement with breath as you travel through sun salutations and standing postures to build vitality before closing with a short but sweet meditation to encourage a sense of calm. Options will be provided for various levels of practitioners. Instructor is Rachael McLoud, RYT200. Bring your own mat. Space is limited. Reserve your spot here.

Explore various ways in which writing can contribute toward personal wellness, including physical, emotional, and spiritual health. Space is limited. Reserve your spot here. 

A “Taste” of Mindfulness
Time:
6-7:30 p.m.
Location:
McNeill Hall 1051
Do you want to know more about mindfulness practices but don’t know where to begin? Join Paula Huffman, mindfulness instructor, to learn simple ways to use mindfulness practices to help you stay present, focused and calm regardless of what is going on around you.

This experiential session will include:

  • An explanation of mindfulness
  • A short discussion on stress triggers and manifestations of stress
  • An introduction to mindfulness techniques for taming the ruminating mind and catastrophic thinking
  • A practice of techniques for stepping out of auto pilot, allowing you to stop, breathe, re-connect no matter where you are or what you are doing
  • A mind body Connection practice
  • An introduction to seated meditation

Huffman is an adjunct faculty with the UNC Program on Integrative Medicine and an instructor at the Carolina Wellness Institute. Space is limited. Reserve your spot here. 


Wednesday, April 3

UNCW Spring Health Fair
Time:
9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
Location: Burney Center
Learn more about the many health-related programs, services and providers located on campus and within the Wilmington community. This year’s Health Fair theme is Root for Your Health and is designed to encourage behavior change through educational booths, live entertainment and physical activity sessions. Hosted by UNCW Health Promotion and the Abrons Student Health Center.

Yoga and Meditation

Need a little self-care? Nourish your mind, body and spirit with an all levels slow flow class taught by Laura Siljander. Afterward, align your mind, body and spirit with guided meditation. Bring your own mat. Space is limited. Reserve your spot here.

Location: Begins and ends on the McNeill Hall lawn
Take a break and get outside! Take a refreshing walk along a portion of the 1.3 mile UNCW Teal Trail.


Saturday, April 6, 2019

Yoga on the Lawn
Time:
10:30 a.m. 
Location: Recreational Sports Complex
Start spring off right with a Saturday morning yoga class at the Recreational Sports Complex sponsored by Campus Recreation. This class will focus on traditional flows, balance poses, and mindfulness. Open to all fitness levels. Some mats are provided and no registration is required.

Fall Prevention Clinic
Time:
10 a.m.-4 p.m.
Location:
Trask 115
Every 13 seconds, an older adult is treated in the emergency room for a fall. Multiple risk factors can contribute to falling and some can be modified or improved with proper evaluation. At this free clinic, participants will have their medications reviewed and blood pressure checked when standing, sitting, and lying down. Balance will be tested and recommendations to help restore balance will be offered. Participants will also learn how to conduct a fall risk assessment of their homes. Appointments are required and can be made by calling 910-962.3250.
