Message from Chancellor Aswani K. Volety

Dear Seahawk Community:

As we move through a busy spring season, our campus is alive with opportunities to celebrate soaring Seahawks. In recent weeks, the momentum has been unmistakable. From the classroom to the basketball court to the pool, the achievements of our students, faculty and staff continue to elevate the spirit and distinction of North Carolina’s coastal university.

Our swimming and diving programs have given us a big reason to cheer. The men’s team captured its fifth straight CAA title, extending UNCW’s proud tradition of excellence. Our competitive women’s team finished second. Standout Seahawk Cameron Snowden joined men’s team members William Carrico and Joseph Busic on the national stage at the NCAA Championships. It’s only fitting that swimmers and divers at a university shaped by the coast continue to soar when they enter the pool.

Our men's basketball team scored another memorable season, securing 27 wins and a first-place regular season finish. The team made history by hosting the university’s first-ever NIT Tournament game at Trask Coliseum. While the outcome wasn’t what we hoped for, I couldn’t be prouder of the determination and sportsmanship our Seahawks displayed. We also celebrate CAA Coach of the Year Takayo Siddle’s leadership, and we recognize senior Noah Ross, a finalist for the Nolan Richardson Award, for his tenacity and impact as a Seahawk. Learn more about these stories and other outstanding Athletics programs at uncwsports.com.

As exciting as March has been, our attention now turns fully to April, a month full of important campus events and opportunities to engage. I’d like to highlight just a few and encourage you to visit uncw.edu/events to explore the full calendar. Later this month, we will welcome High Point University President Nido Qubein as the featured speaker for the spring Chancellor’s Dare to Learn Lecture, offering insights from one of higher education’s most respected leaders. The Spring 2026 Senior Art Exhibition will showcase the creativity and talent of our graduating artists. During April 14-15, don’t miss out on Seahawks Give, UNCW’s 24-hour giving challenge, which invites our entire community to come together in support of the people, programs and possibilities that make this university extraordinary.

Thank you for everything you do to support our remarkable community and for celebrating our Seahawk spirit with pride. The future is bright, and together, we’ll keep soaring to new heights.

Yours in Seahawk Spirit,
