Message from Chancellor Aswani K. Volety

Dear UNCW Community:

As we near the end of the spring semester and the approach of commencement, it’s a good time to recognize many of the accomplishments and contributions of our Seahawk community.

We are happy to celebrate the success of Like No Other: The Campaign for UNCW. Thanks to the generosity of UNCW’s community of supporters, we surpassed our original goal and our stretch goal, soaring past $131 million as the campaign heads toward its conclusion on June 30. Tens of thousands of alumni, friends, parents, faculty, staff and students have invested in our mission since the campaign’s launch. This includes Seahawks Give, when the entire campus community comes together for 24 hours of giving. More than 1,900 donors contributed more than $650,000 this year.

Our Seahawks also share their spirit with the community. Women’s basketball coach Nicole Woods and the UNCW cheerleaders and dance team were among those accompanying the UNCW float in Wilmington’s Azalea Festival parade. Women’s basketball also hosted the first Dancing with the Seahawks competition pairing local celebrities with professional dancers. Our own Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, Dr. Christine Reed Davis, put her best foot forward as one of those celebrities. Seahawk Preview Day introduced newly admitted students to campus, with the crowd reflecting the strong enrollment we’re seeing for the coming academic year.

The UNCW School of Nursing, part of the College of Health and Human Services, earned national recognition in April when its online Master of Science in Nursing – Nurse Educator (MSN NE) program received a Quality Matters Online Program Design Certification. This outstanding school will soon welcome a new director, Patricia D. Suplee, Ph.D., RNC-OB, FAAN, who brings 30 years of experience to the role.

Congratulations to the men's tennis team for securing the CAA championship and advancing to the NCAA Tournament for a fourth straight season. We’re excited to welcome baseball and softball teams and fans to our campus as we host the CAA championships in both sports next month.

Seahawks soar higher together. I’m excited to continue connecting with all of you as we transform our current successes into future growth and achievement.

Yours in Seahawk spirit,
