Mr. Henry L. (Hal) Kitchin Jr.

Mr. Kitchin, a resident of Wilmington, N.C., was reappointed to the UNCW Board of Trustees by the UNC Board of Governors to serve a second term ending in 2021. He serves as Chairman of the Board as well as Chairman of the Executive Committee and Endowment Board.  

Kitchin, a partner with the law firm of McGuireWoods LLP, graduated with a B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was a John M. Morehead Scholar. He also holds a J.D. from Wake Forest University School of Law. His professional expertise includes antitrust, business tort and breach of contract cases, as well as bankruptcy, real estate and land use law.

Kitchin, a member of the N.C. Bar Association, has received several professional honors, such as selection for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America, Commercial Litigation, Woodward/White, Inc., 2009-19. He is past president of the New Hanover County Bar Association's Young Lawyers Division and past chairman of the N.C. Bar Association's Antitrust & Complex Business Disputes section.

His community activities have included serving as Chair of the Greater Wilmington Chamber of Commerce and the Cape Fear Future Foundation. He is a former member of the Board of Trustees at the Coastal Horizons Center, Inc. and a former member of the City of Wilmington's Vision 2020 Oversight Committee.
