International Student Orientations

All international students whose visa is sponsored by UNCW must attend MIVISO (the Mandatory Immigration Validation and International Student Orientation) through the Office of International Students and Scholars (OISS). MIVISO covers important immigration, employment, cultural and academic information specifically of interest to all international students beginning at UNCW. This will give you the chance to learn crucial information for your studies, as well as to meet other incoming International Students.

International students will receive information regarding MIVISO from OISS directly via email. If you have questions about arrival and/or MIVISO, email international@uncw.edu or visit the OISS website here.

MIVISO Date: August 18th, 2023 (All International Students)

Student Fee: Free

The following international students are required to attend a 2nd orientation:

• F-1 visa, degree seeking students (both first-year and transfer students)
• F-1 visa students enrolled in dual degree international student programs (including TABSA, NANJING, Chongqing, and MARMARA)
• F-1 visa Graduate Students may be required to attend a departmental orientation. Confirm with your graduate program coordinator.

In addition to the university orientation, F-1 international students are required to complete an online immigration check-in session with the Office of International Students & Scholars (OISS). Students will receive more details from their international student advisor.

Visiting international visa students are only required to attend The Mandatory Immigration Validation and International Student Orientation.

Our orientation program is designed to help you make a smooth transition to UNCW. You will learn what you need to know to make a successful academic and personal adjustment to UNCW. 

All students must register for an orientation session by the registration deadline. Students will receive reminders to their UNCW e-mail consistently until they complete registration. No exceptions will be made after a deadline has passed. To register for orientation click here.

Transfer Orientation Date: August 17 (or any of the virtual May-June dates)

First-Year Orientation date: August 20-21

Deadline to register for orientation or request a refund: August 1

Deadline to complete ALL online modules: August 10
