While we prefer at least a 3.0, we do not have a hard and fast GPA requirement. Work experience is also an important consideration in our review of applicant qualifications.
You will need to take a foundational early childhood course only if you have no previous education or experience in the early childhood field. In this case, you would register for the introductory course in early childhood (EDL 503 Introduction to Early Childhood Education – 3 credits).
This course would be counted as an elective in the program. We value past experience as well, and any additional related early childhood experiences will be evaluated to determine whether or not you need to take the foundation course.

It takes two years if you take 2 classes (6 credits) per semester.
No. All courses for this program are 100% online. The format is generally asynchronous, but faculty may schedule several synchronous sessions or have required virtual meetings. If you can't attend those classes or meetings, they will be taped and available for later viewing.
If you are working, only 2 courses per semester are suggested. You can take more than two classes, but it is not recommended. Also, if you are applying for the TEACH scholarship, be aware that it will cover only 18 credits/year.
The internship (EDL 510) is required for your degree. The internship is an experience with an agency other than your own. It does not require you to travel or be there in person. It could be something you work on to support the agency from your home agency or classroom. Your advisor will work with you on developing this experience.
During the final term in the program, students will complete a project that may be in the form of a thesis or an action research project that focuses on a specific area of family and child advocacy. A faculty advisor will determine final approval for the project.
Yes, the T.E.A.C.H. Early Childhood Scholarship is a newly developed initiative launched by Child Care Services Association (CCSA). A limited number of scholarships are available to support 100% tuition costs and bonuses for recipients who complete at least 9 credits annually.
