- Students participate in supervised experiences related to behavioral assessment and interventions for children diagnosed learning and/or intellectual disabilities who display problematic behavior and/or experience deficits in feeding, social, or communication skills. Primary activities will involve the practice of behavior analytic skills towards improvement of socially significant behavior of children, and regular consultation with the supervisor.
- Prerequisites for the course are passing grades in PSY 217 (Learning and Behavior Change), and PSY 317 (Applied Behavior Analysis) or PSY 316 (Applied Behavior Analysis for Behavior Technicians).
- Students will meet in class once per week for 75 minutes. The class functions as group supervision, and students will complete 2-4 projects during the semester. Students may take the course twice for credit. The course is not offered during summer sessions.
- As part of the course, students are required to secure placement at one of the programs at the Center for Pediatric Behavioral Health in which to conduct their practicum and complete 120 hours during the semester, averaging 8-10 hours weekly. Programs must be willing and able to provide appropriate duties and hours. Scheduling of time is to be handled by the student and program. Students may not accept payment for their practicum duties.
- Students are provided with liability insurance through the university and will not need coverage to be provided by the practicum site. Student liability insurance DOES NOT cover vehicular transportation of clients and therefore students are not permitted to transport clients.
- Documentation of practicum hours are required, necessary forms are provided to the student and program by the practicum instructor.
- Students are asked to comply with all background screenings and trainings necessary to function within their practicum site.
Students interested in learning more about PSY 419 should visit the Center for Pediatric Behavioral Health and contact the professors responsible for providing practicum supervision:
