Psychology, M.S. Program Overview

Choose Your Concentration

Our program has three concentrations, two are primarily research focused and one is research and clinically focused. Each concentration emphasizes the scientific methods and principles common to all fields of psychology. You will participate in supervised research, and a thesis is required.

  • The applied behavior analysis concentration focuses on the conceptual and methodological foundations of behavior analysis and takes a data-based approach to behavioral assessment and clinical psychology. The scope of behavior analysis is wide-ranging, including work in populations with developmental disabilities, in behavioral medicine, educational settings, non-profit organizations, and many others with emphasis placed on providing evidence-based intervention services. Students also have the opportunity to work with basic researchers in the areas of behavioral pharmacology.
  • Graduates of the psychological science concentration are not eligible to practice psychology but frequently go on for doctoral study in clinical, social, neuroscience, and other areas. Some are researchers, administrators, and college-level psychology instructors.
  • The neuroscience and behavior concentration prepares students for doctoral programs in neuroscience, behavioral neuroscience and related fields.

  • Essay:
    This 500-800 word statement should be completed and uploaded into the online application after submission. Your statement should address: a) the areas of psychology in which you are interested; b) your career & educational goals immediately upon completion of the master's degree; c) your long-term educational & career goals; d) how completion of this degree program will help you reach your career & educational goals; and any career-related experience you have had (e.g., instructional, research, computer skills, counseling, animal care, etc.).
  • Requirements:
    A strong academic record with an average of “B” or better in at least 21 credit hours of psychology courses, including statistics and a psychology research methods course.
  • Timeline:
    Our timeline is built around moving as many complete applications as possible through our process starting on the week after December 1. Therefore, having a complete application within a couple of days of this timeframe is ideal. Every application submitted during our application window will receive fair and equal consideration. We will move them through in batches as they come in.  We expect to invite selected applicants for interviews in late January, which is why having a complete application by the priority deadline is important.
