A Fast Path to a Master’s Degree

Our combined degree program enables ambitious mathematics majors to earn a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree within five years. This program’s flexibility provides several plans of study and offers both thesis and non-thesis options.

Our applied mathematics course of study prepares you for careers in business, industry, government or further study in mathematics. Applications from the sciences, industry and management are stressed in classical applied mathematics, operations research and statistics coursework.

More traditional, pure mathematics plans of study are also available, providing a solid background in the foundations of advanced mathematics. Choose this path if your goal is a Ph.D. degree in mathematics or interested in secondary or community college teaching.

Applied learning activities are widely available, including internships.

How Do I apply?

In the first semester of your senior year, submit the standard application for admission to the Graduate School including: an application form, application fee, transcripts, and GRE scores to the Graduate School.

In addition, a graduate degree plan, signed by the prospective student, the department chair, and graduate coordinator must be submitted before the end of the senior year.

Departmental permission to apply to the bachelor’s/master’s degree program does not guarantee admission to the Graduate School.

Additional Requirements

  1. Pre-Requisite Courses: Have a strong overall academic record and have passed with a "B" or better average, the following undergraduate mathematics courses or their equivalent:
    1. a standard introductory calculus sequence including multivariate calculus,
    2. a course in linear algebra,
    3. and at least 15 additional credit hours of mathematics or statistics courses behind the level of calculus.
