Complement Your Degree with an Additional Credential

The graduate program in Hispanic studies is an 18-hour program that will prepare you for a variety of careers in the community.

Spanish-speaking skills are highly sought in education and community organizations, and the program meets the requirements of SACS to teach at the community college, four-year college and university levels.

Choose From a Variety of Electives

Nine credit hours include courses in film studies, U.S. Latino culture and literature, cultural studies and pedagogy.

Classes are taught by faculty with specializations in Hispanic linguistics, film, literature, culture, language acquisition and foreign language pedagogy.

Additional Requirements

  1. Upload Supplemental Documents After Submission
  2. Essay: A 500-word essay in Spanish in which applicant describes her/his reasons for wanting to pursue graduate work in Spanish.
  3. Audio File: Recorded audio file  (3- 5 min.) in Spanish .  The speaking sample will be uploaded as an audio file (20 mb limit per file).   An audio recording in which the applicant introduces her/himself, describes a person she/he admires, or describes a trip she/he took in Spanish.
  4. Bachelor's Degree: Must hold a bachelor's degree in Spanish or equivalent from a regionally accredited institution.
  5. Financial Aid:  Non-federal loans are available for this program.  Admitted students may apply through the UNCW Scholarship Application to be considered for additional scholarships.  Please consult your Financial Aid Counselor for further details.
    Visa Sponsorship:  This program does not qualify for visa sponsorship.
