About Our Program

The respiratory therapy degree advancement program is designed to provide graduates of entry into respiratory care professional practice degree programs with additional knowledge, skills, and attributes in leadership, management, education, research, and/or advanced clinical practice that will enable them to meet their current professional goals and prepare them for practice as advanced degree respiratory therapists.

36-credit hours
Students with the RRT credential may be awarded 34 elective credits after completion of the entry course: RSP 324 Disease Management for Respiratory Therapists.
University Studies, or general education requirements, must be met by transferring up to 64 accepted course credits from previous institutions and/or completion of University Studies at UNCW to satisfy the 120 credit requirement for the bachelor’s degree in respiratory therapy. Official transcript review will determine the total number of required courses needed for each student.
If admitted, students must successfully complete required criteria set by the School of Health and Applied Human Sciences, in addition to completing the university application process.

Tuition and fees for the online Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Therapy (RRT-BSRT) Degree Advancement program are for core RT courses only. Additional general education courses may be required to complete the requirements for a baccalaureate degree. Any general education courses needed will be determined after a transcript review. Accreditation

The Respiratory Therapy Program in the School of Health and Applied Human Sciences at the University of North Carolina Wilmington is pursuing accreditation with the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC). The Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care has voted on and accepted our application for provisional accreditation.
