Michael Munger finished a PhD at Washington University in St. Louis in 1984, and worked for at the US Federal Trade Commission. He later had academic positions at Dartmouth, University of Texas, and University of North Carolina before moving to Duke in 1997. He served as Chair of the Political Science Department at Duke for a decade, and now is the Director of the interdisciplinary Philosophy, Politics, and Economics Program.
He is a past President of the Public Choice Society, and was North American editor of the Public Choice journal. He currently co-edits the journal Independent Review, and serves on several editorial boards of refereed journals. Munger has won three teaching awards at Duke, and collaborates with scholars in more than 40 colleges and universities in developing PPE programs worldwide.
Munger's recent books include work on the role of platforms in changing the place of firms and labor contracts, and an analysis of whether capitalism can survive in a democracy. His new book, THE SHARING ECONOMY, was published by the Institute for Economic Affairs in September 2021. He lives in Raleigh, NC with his spouse, Donna Gingerella, and an enormous grateful rescue dog, Murphy.
