17th: Matthew Sayball- "Interests, Mortality, and the Moral Authority of Advance Directives".
Bear Hall Room 106
Advance directives are legal documents intended to capture and express a person's will and preferences, typically concerning health care options and decision-making. These directives may serve as a basis for a person to have her will carried out should some illness, injury, etc. leave her either incompetent or otherwise unable to express her own wishes herself. During this PARS event, we will talk about advance directives and some interesting philosophical and moral issues that they raise!
Not sure if this topic is relevant for you? Well, it sure should be if you or someone you know and care about is mortal. In fact, familiarity with advanced directives is likely to have practical value for everyone at some point in their lives. Still not sure if you're interested? Come anyway. You (during or after this event) may well realize that you have interests that you (now) may not think that you have!!
