The UNCW scholarship process involves a number of awarding entities throughout the university, to include the Office of Scholarships & Financial Aid, Academic Departments, the Alumni Association and others.

DONOR-FUNDED SCHOLARSHIPS

CHHS students are hardworking, driven by an ethos of academic excellence, and are passionate about health and wellness. A significant portion of undergraduate students receive some form of financial aid. Your support can make a difference by providing merit, need-based and diversity scholarships to the healthcare leaders of tomorrow.

The Bucciere-Reel Scholarship in Social Work

This scholarship was established in 2019 by Robert A. Bucciere and Justine J. Reel, Ph.D. Dr. Reel is the associate dean of research and innovation in the College of Health and Human Services,serves as a tenured professor in the School of Health and Applied Human Sciences, and teaches a course for the substance use disorder and addictions graduate certificate program in the School of Social Work. Mr. Bucciere is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with more than 20 years of direct experience providing healthcare and mental health services. He currently works at UNCW on select projects.

The Dr. Maria O’Neill McMahon Scholarship in Social Work was created by Mark Griffis and Dave Robertson in honor of Dr. Maria O’Neill McMahon.

The Alice & Britt Preyer Scholarship in Social Work

The Alice & Britt Preyer Scholarship in Social Work was created by Alice and Britt Preyer. The scholarship will be used to assist students interested in pursuing a degree offered by the School of Social Work in the College of Health and Human Services.

The Leigh W. Venters Scholarship in Social Work

The Leigh W. Venters Scholarship in Social Work was established in 2021 by Leigh Venters '88. Mrs. Venters has a real passion and commitment for UNCW, and has remained involved with the university since graduation. She has served on the UNCW Board of Visitors, Friends of UNCW, and the College of Health and Human Services (CHHS) Advancement Council, among other appointments.
