Annemarie Petroff joined the UNCW Clinical Research program with more than 17 years of experience within the industry. She worked her way up through various roles in clinical research from cardio-pulmonary and autonomic nervous systems research to Clinical Research Associate and Global Project Manager with a focus on the metabolic and infectious disease therapeutic areas.
In her most recent role, Petroff utilized her expertise as a change manager for corporate learning and performance optimization at PPD, a global contract research organization headquartered in Wilmington, NC. She was able to transform PPD’s online/virtual training offerings while supporting PPD’s strategic partnerships and joint ventures. Further, Petroff was responsible for planning and executing PPD’s first ever virtual investigator meeting.
Petroff received her MS in cardiac rehabilitation from East Stroudsburg University and her BS in Fitness Management and Physical Education Studies from the University of Delaware. Her clinical research experience began at the Spinal Cord Injury Center of James J. Peters Memorial Hospital and at Mt. Sinai School of Medicine.
Barbara Pennington joined UNCW in 2013 where she has developed and taught graduate and undergraduate courses in the Clinical Research Program. These courses include Monitoring and Ethics, Good Clinical Practice (GCP), Basics of Clinical Research and Medical Terminology, Monitoring and Managing Clinical Trials, and Senior Seminar. She also serves as the faculty representative for the Consortium of Academic Programs in Clinical Research (CoAPCR) and is the Vice Chair for the CoAPCR Membership Committee.
Pennington has extensive experience working in clinical research, where she has held positions such as Clinical Research Associate at General Clinical Division to Senior Research Specialist Manager at PPD, and Director at INC Research. Since its inception in 2008, she has been the president and co-founder of IntoGreat Health, Inc. where she develops and facilitates workshops and seminars in Good Clinical Practice, clinical process and monitoring, and quality management.
In addition to this, she has international experience conducting educational workshops for clinical research site personnel, Ministries of Health and Ethics Committees in over 16 countries including Botswana, Thailand and China.
Linda Shostak is an instructor at UNCW Wilmington and Senior Director of Biometrics Optimization and Training at Syneos Health. Shostak has more than 18 years of experience in clinical research. During this time, she has worked in the areas of data management, quality assurance, and project management.
Shostak has participated in numerous clinical research studies in the areas of oncology, general medicine and rare diseases over the past 18 years. She currently teaches graduates and undergraduates in the UNCW Clinical Research program.
Kim Nelson received a degree in biology from Temple University in Philadelphia and started a career in the pharmaceutical industry that lasted 29 years. During this time her areas of focus included strategic planning, project management, clinical development, risk management, and market optimization. She worked for large and small pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies as well as consulting organizations. She has a small consulting company with her husband.
She is involved in a variety of local organizations including being a coach for non-profits through QENO, Chair of the School Board for the Girls Leadership Academy of Wilmington (GLOW), and President of the Plantation Village board. She is a member of an Advisory Board for FUSECR and Cameron Executive Network. She is a mentor through FUSECR and the Cameron Executive Network. She and her husband are also a host family for UNCW international students.
Jen Pullum is a registered nurse with over 20 years of experience in the Clinical Research Industry. Currently, she is an Executive Director of Clinical Trial Management with Medpace, Inc. located in Cincinnati, O.H where she provides director-level oversight and partnership governance to a variety of biotech and pharmaceutical sponsors.
Prior to her Medpace experience, Pullum spent over 16 years at PPD, where she directed the clinical research internship program for UNCW while functioning as the Region-Head of all start-up activities for North America and Latin America in addition to providing oversight for Clinical Trial managers in Phase I-IV trials covering multiple therapeutic areas including, Hematology/Oncology, metabolic, infectious disease and rare disease indications. Since 2018, Pullum has been actively mentoring UNCW clinical research students.
Pullum graduated from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, TN with a degree in education prior to receiving her Associate Degree in Nursing from Cape Fear Community College in Wilmington, N.C.
