Frequently Asked Questions

Who Can Take Advantage of The Clinic's Services?

Comprehensive psychological services are available to community members in Wilmington and the surrounding area on a confidential basis. Currently, we are able to offer assessment services to ages 13+, and therapy services to ages 18+.

For instructions on how to make an appointment, please visit the "Making an Appointment & Your First Visit" section on our appointments page. You can email us or call the clinic office. Email is preferred our preferred and fastest method of communication.

How Much Will an Initial Consultation Cost?

We are a non-profit training clinic, which allows us to provide clients with professional, confidential psychological services that are affordable. The initial intake and therapy session fees are determined with your clinician at the beginning of treatment using a sliding scale (range: $10-$40 per session; based on income). Fees for assessment services are currently reduced to a flat rate of $200. Of note, fees must be paid by the client, as we do not work with insurance companies at this time.

Do I Need an Appointment to Be Seen?

Yes, our clinic does not offer walk-in service.

How Soon Can I See a Clinician?

Prospective patients / clients call the clinic to request services and are assigned to a graduate student clinician. We try to ensure that all prospective clients receive appointments as soon as possible. An initial interview is typically scheduled first.

This interview allows clinicians to better assess each patient or client's individual needs. Supervisors will review each case to determine if the clinic is the appropriate agency to effectively help. There may be a waiting list for specific services.

I'm A UNCW Student. What Services Are Available to Me?

Thank you for your interest in our services. We do provide psycho-educational evaluations for UNCW students. As you are eligible for professional counseling services through the UNCW Counseling Center, you are advised to first consider their services as the Counseling Center's mission is to serve the needs of students. However, if appropriate, UNCW students are also welcome to receive therapy services at the GPAC.

Does The Clinic Prescribe Medications for Mental Health Problems?

No, but we will work with your physician or refer you to a medical provider if you are interested in an evaluation for medications as well as therapy.

Can I Use My Insurance Plan at The Clinic?

No, the UNCW GPAC does not bill insurance as most plans will not reimburse for services provided by trainees.

Does The Clinic Provide Emergency Services or Crisis Counseling?

No, if you are currently experiencing a crisis, we encourage you to contact the appropriate community resource listed below.
