The RISE Living Learning Community (LLC) seeks to inspire emerging leaders through active campus involvement and community engagement.
Created in 2018, RISE is designed for first-year students from rural counties in North Carolina and other areas with less access to resources, first-generation college students, and students with marginalized identities.
Benefits
Move in two - three days before the general student population to take part in a variety of activities designed to build community, familiarize students with campus resources, and introduce them to the Wilmington area.
RISE participants who complete their first year at UNCW receive a $500 retention scholarship.
Participants will also be on track to receive a Leadership Minor.
The program is open to students from rural North Carolina counties, first-generation college students, and students with marginalized identities.
Residence Hall & Courses
Participants take two courses together in the Fall & one in the Spring:
Students who are interested in the RISE LLC are encouraged to also consider expressing interest in the Coastal Roots Summer Bridge Program through the Office Institutional Diversity and Inclusion. Coastal ROOTS will focus on college preparation and continued academic success through a summer bridge program for students with the following backgrounds:
First-generation students
Students from low ascending/rural counties
Students that identify in a marginalized group (BIPOC)
Students who are Pell Grant eligible or have additional financial aid grant opportunities demonstrated by FAFSA reviews
