April 26, 2021 | Message on Administrative Searches
Dear Faculty and Staff in Academic Affairs,
I am writing today with information regarding the search processes for two important leadership positions within Academic Affairs. As discussed at the open forum regarding our organizational structure, we will be conducting searches for two Associate Provost positions.
First, we will initiate a search for the Associate Provost for Student Engagement, Enrollment and Retention immediately. This position will provide leadership for the Office of Admissions, the Office of the Registrar, the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid, the Office of Military Affairs, the Student-Athlete Support Services, and the University College. Late last week, I sent a memo to members of the search committee to officially launch this search. Dean Rob Burrus and Dr. Christina Logan will co-chair this committee. Information about this search (including the full search committee) will be posted here in the coming days. Our goal will be to complete this search by August in order to have the successful candidate in place for the next enrollment cycle.
Second, I have been considering the search process for the Associate Provost for Undergraduate Education and Faculty Affairs. While I remain committed to completing an external search for this role, given the timing in the academic year and the number of other searches currently underway, I plan to launch this search next fall when faculty are back on contract. Therefore, I will appoint an interim for this role effective July 1, 2021. I anticipate this interim appointment will be for 6 to 12 months depending on the success of the search process and the availability of the successful candidate.
In terms of the interim appointment, I have proposed the following process to Faculty Senate leadership:
- I will identify a potential appointment for this role.
- I will ask Faculty Senate Steering Committee to meet to interview this candidate in early May.
- I will ask Steering to provide feedback and an endorsement of the candidate if they find the candidate acceptable.
- If Steering endorses the interim appointment, I will make the appointment and announce the interim to the division.
Thank you in advance for your support of these search processes and for your participation in the search processes already underway.
Best regards,
Jamie
