SUBJECT: Call for Nominations for Teaching and Service Awards; Hoggard Medal for Achievement


Dear chairs/directors, faculty, staff, students and alumni,

As we enter a season of giving, thanks and general holiday cheer, I am happy to announce the timely annual call for nominations in the following three faculty awards. This nomination process is an excellent way to highlight and celebrate the amazing faculty we have at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. Below you will find key details for each award, and a link to instructions on the nomination process. Before submitting your letter of nomination, please take a moment to read through the detailed instructions as each award has important differences in eligibility and nomination process. The Chancellor’s Teaching Excellence Award

Who can nominate? All chairs, directors, faculty, staff, students and alumni are encouraged to nominate faculty members who have met the award eligibility requirements. Nominations must be submitted in letter format.
Nomination Deadline: January 21, 2022
Note: Please see criteria (II.A. 5) in the teaching awards material. If the same individual is nominated for The Chancellor’s Teaching Excellence Award and The Distinguished Teaching Professorship that individual may submit a portfolio for consideration for only one of the awards.

The Distinguished Teaching Professorship Award

Who can nominate? All chairs, directors, faculty, staff, students and alumni are encouraged to nominate faculty members who have met the award eligibility requirements. Nominations must be submitted in letter format.
Nomination Deadline: January 21, 2022

UNCW Distinguished Scholarly Engagement and Public Service Award

Who can nominate? Only chairs and directors may nominate faculty members for this award. Nominations must be submitted in letter format.
Nomination Deadline: January 21, 2022

Please note that nominations for The Chancellor’s Teaching Excellence Award should be sent to the appropriate dean’s office, while nominations for both the Distinguished Teaching Professorship Award and the Distinguished Scholarly Engagement and Public Service Award should be sent to the Provost’s Office (via email to ellispc@uncw.edu or hard copy to Academic Affairs, 601 South College Rd., Wilmington, NC 28403-5900, attention: Dr. Carol Ellis).

Hoggard Medal for Achievement (student award)
Call for nominations coming in January 2022.

Who can nominate? Only faculty members may nominate students for this award. Nominations must be submitted in letter format.
Nomination Deadline: To be announced.
Note: This medal is awarded annually to the graduating senior who, in the opinion of the faculty, has shown the most improvement during their time at the university. This award recognizes not only the improvements in the student recipient’s academic achievement, but also challenges or adversity they may have overcome while at UNCW. Students graduating summer 2021, fall 2021 and spring 2022 are eligible to be nominated.

Distinguished Faculty Scholar Award (faculty award)
Call for nominations coming in January 2022.

Who can nominate? Only faculty members may nominate other faculty members for this award. Nominations must be submitted in letter format.
Nomination Deadline: To be announced.
