Awareness & Fund Raising
The WSRC offers enriching opportunities for all who seek community engagement and activism through volunteerism or internships. Last year alone, we collaborated and co-organized to raise over $50,000 for local nonprofits. Our WSRC faculty and student volunteers stepped up for 2,000+ hours for Rape Crisis Center of Coastal Horizons Ctr. Inc., Domestic Violence Shelter & Services, Women in the Center, Breast Cancer Fund, YWCA of the Lower Cape Fear and V-Day International.
Through events such as Wilmington’s Walk-A-Mile in Her Shoes and performances of Eve Ensler’s The Vagina Monologues, our community brought awareness and funds to stop violence against women and girls. Focusing on safety on campus, SAFER Campus students researched and presented on services and the reporting of sexual assault at UNCW; in the upcoming year, they will continue the project getting word out to all UNCW about safe behaviors, bystander intervention, all-men peer education groups, and the free campus services available to those in need. Come join the team to learn what we’re doing to make campus safe.
The WSRC offers students a chance to complement their studies with involvement in event programming through numerous sponsored and co-sponsored campus lectures, panel discussions, workshops, community fundraisers, and education outreach programs. Research and grant writing opportunities with our Women’s and Gender Studies faculty are also available.
Join our volunteer community! It’s a great way to get involved on an off campus, build leadership and organizational skills, and to make a difference. Interested in volunteering? Have your own ideas for how you might contribute—contact
