About CLEP

The College Level Examination Program (CLEP) is a series of computer-based exams that allow individuals to demonstrate learning and earn college credit for that knowledge. CLEP has more information about the tests as well as practice tests. At UNCW the various CLEP examinations, required minimum scores, UNC Wilmington course equivalents, and credit awarded are listed at the UNCW Office of the Registar. Contact your school for their CLEP policies.

Test Time: approximately 1.5 hours. Also, scratch paper and pencils are provided to each tester.

Valid ID Form Required: driver's license, or passport, or military ID must be presented at the time of testing.

How to Register

Call University Testing Services at 910-962-7444. Select a date and time to test. Note: the $25 payment to UNCW is due when you register for the test. The CLEP fee ($80) is due on the day of the test. Advance appointments are strongly recommended.

Dates and Times Offered

CLEP Tests are offered Monday through Friday at 9:00am, 11:00am, 1:00pm, and 3:00pm. Friday afternoon appointments are not available from the first week in May to the first week in August.

Cost, Refunds, and Reschedule Policy

The fee is $25 plus $80 on the day of the test. The $25 is payable to UNCW when making the appointment. Use a credit card to pay via telephone. Checks, money orders, cash or credit cards are accepted if making the appointment in person. The $80 is payable to CLEP and all payment methods are accepted except cash. No refunds will be given. Reschedule your appointment by calling University Testing Services at 910-962-7444 least one business day in advance of your scheduled test date. Rescheduling is not permitted on the day of the test.
