Student Accounts, Tuition, & Cashier’s Office   

Will I receive a bill in the mail?

No, all tuition bills are handled electronically.  Students are required to sign up for

E-bills. For more information about tuition, visit the Student Accounts's Tuition website.

 

When is tuition due?

Tuition for students who registered for courses during pre-registration is due January 13, 2010.  More information can be found on the Registration and Billing Schedule website.

 

How much is tuition?

Tuition rates can be found on Student Accounts's Cost of Attendance website.

 

What else does my student need to know about E-bills?

All students with an outstanding balance will receive an e-mail notification to their e-mail account stating that their UNCW e-bill is available online to view and print. Currently enrolled students that have a balance due will receive an email notice from e-bill@uncw.edu that the e-bill is available for viewing. When students receive the notice, they can access their bill via the link included in the e-mail or via SeaNet. Students are responsible for checking their e-mail for their electronic bill notification and for making their payment on time.

Students can pay online on e-bill, forward the statement to their parents or a third party, or print a copy of the statement and mail the payment. An e-bill reflects the charges and credits applied to their account as of the date the bill was created. Transportation & Parking  

How does my student get a parking permit?

All student vehicles must be registered annually at the beginning of the fall semester or within 48 hours after the first class of the fall/spring semester and both summer sessions. Students must be registered for classes before they can register for a parking permit.  Vehicles of students who register for classes after the beginning of the fall/ spring semesters and both summer sessions must be registered within 48 hours of that date.

To register a vehicle, students should follow these steps:

  1. Go to UNCW Seaport.
  2. At the UNCW Seaport login, type their UNCW e-mail username (without @uncw.edu) and password.
  3. Select Submit.
  4. Select the Student tab
  5. Maximize the Auxiliary Services channel, located on the left side of the page
  6. Select Parking Services
  7. Under Parking Services, click on Get a Parking Permit.

All students must provide current automobile insurance information for liability purposes for any type of permit, including temporary permits, in accordance with state law. If students have any questions, please visit Parking and Transportation's Student Parking Permit website or call Auxiliary Service at 910.962.3178.

How will my student know where to park?

There are specific zones where students can park.  For a detailed description and how your student can determine their parking zone, please refer to the Parking Zones and Maps website

 

My student received a citation.  What should he/she do in order to appeal it?

Students wishing to appeal a parking or traffic citation should initiate an appeal by filing a Parking or Traffic Citation Appeal form with Parking & Transportation Services. These appeal forms can be obtained at Parking & Transportation Services at Auxiliary Services in the back of the Warwick Center or by printing the Parking or Traffic Citation Appeal formBack to Top

 

Housing & Residence Life

How does my student apply for housing?

Students should apply for housing through Seaport.  For detailed instruction's please visit the Training Materials for Student Housing Sign-Up website.

Can my student move in early or late?

Early/late arrivals are dealt with on an individual basis.  Contact Housing and Residence Life to ask about an early or late arrival.  They can be reached at 910.962.3125.

 

Can my student change room assignments?
Students may request room changes beginning around the second week of each semester. The dates and times for room changes will be widely advertised once the semester begins. Students interested in a room change may do so by completing a room change form at the Office of Housing and Residence Life.

 

What kind of furniture is provided in each room?

Each room in all Residence halls contains a loftable/bunkable bed, a dresser, and a closet.

 

What amenities are available in each room?

Is alcohol/smoking permitted in the residence halls?

The University of North Carolina Wilmington abides by North Carolina State laws and statutes.  Students 21 years of age and older may possess and consume beverages within the privacy of their bedroom or private living area.  Underage students are subject to an alcohol fine, through the Campus Judicial System, of at least $35.00 on the first offense and at least $50.00 thereafter.

In accordance with University Policy, alcoholic beverages may not be consumed in public areas, including hallways, lounges, apartment balconies/porches or outside the buildings.  The sale of any alcoholic beverage on the UNCW campus is prohibited.  Students are not permitted to possess kegs, or any other common source container of alcohol including beer bongs in the Residence Life area.  Students are not allowed to construct or own a table used for the purpose of beer pong.

Residents who are under 21 years of age are not allowed to host people with alcohol regardless of the guest's age.  No guest of a resident will be allowed to bring in alcohol when visiting student residences.  The Office of Housing and Residence Life staff reserves the right to stop people from bringing alcohol into the building(s).

A student and his/her guest may be asked to open all backpacks, bags, coolers and other containers when entering a residence hall.  This procedure is a safety and security measure, which prevents most unwanted or unauthorized materials from being brought into the halls.  All students’ cooperation with staff requests is expected and appreciated.  A resident and his/her guests may be denied entrance if they choose not to cooperate with this request.

Can my student designate a roommate choice?

Students can request a specific roommate, but this is not guaranteed.  Roommate assignments depend on the time that the housing contract is completed and the residence hall preferences.

Financial Aid

Who can I talk to about financial aid?

The Office of Scholarships & Financial Aid at UNCW is located in the Warwick Center.  They can be reached at finaid@uncw.edu or by phone at 910.962.3177.

 

When will my student receive financial aid?

Different types of financial aid are rewarded at different times.  The application process for financial aid through FAFSA begins on January 1st of each year for the following academic year.  Contact the Office of Scholarships & Financial Aid for further information. Back to Top

 

Fraternities and Sororities

Are there fraternities and sororities at UNCW?

UNCW is home to many fraternities and sororities.  The Interfraternity Council, National Panhellenic Council, and National Pan-Hellenic (NPHC) are all represented on campus, in addition to Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority and Sigma Alpha Omega Christian Sorority. Health Services  

Where should my student go if he/she gets sick?

The Abrons Student Health Center is located on the second floor of Westside Hall.  Each visit to the health center is free of charge with the exception of prescriptions and lab fees.  Each student pays for Health Services with their tuition and fees.  The Student Health Center offers many services, which can be found on their website.  Students also have access to a pharmacy, which does not take insurance.  Visits can be by appointment or walk-in.

What if my student gets sick when the Health Center is closed?

If your student is experiencing an emergency, they should call 911 to access EMS, or proceed to an Emergency Department (ED). The closest ED is at Cape Fear Hospital, 5301 Wrightsville Avenue. A larger ED/hospital/trauma center is at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, 2131 S. 17th Street.

If students have an urgent problem, proceed to a local Urgent Care Center or to a local Emergency Department as appropriate.

If students are uncertain what to do about an urgent medical problem, they should call Vitaline at 910.332.8021 to obtain medical advice from a registered nurse. This number automatically identifies them as a UNCW student. Feedback from the call will be sent by fax to the SHC the same day, facilitating follow-up at the SHC if needed.

Are there resources for my student to learn about healthy eating and general wellness?

The Health Promotion Office is a great resource for students.  They offer information and programs about nutrition, sexual education, and general health and wellness.  A group of Peer Educators assist the Heath Promotion team in teaching our students good health choices. Please visit the Health Promotion website for more information.  Back to Top

 

University Dining

What meal plan options are available for my student?

Campus Dining offers eight great meal plans for students.  Students can pick the plan that works best for their schedule.  For a breakdown of each plan, please visit the Meal Plans website.

 

When and where can my student get their dining card?

A student's meal plan is on their UNCW One Card, which also serves as their identification card.  This should be kept with them at all times. Students receive their UNCW One Card during Orientation.

 

What should my student do if he/she loses the UNCW One Card?

Lost or stolen cards should be reported immediately to the UNCW One Card Services Office, located at the back of the Warwick Center, during business hours. After hours and weekends, students should contact University Police to report their card lost or stolen. Student may also go online to deactivate their account here.

University Mail & Postal Services

Does my student have a mailbox on campus?

All freshmen and on-campus students have a mailbox on campus.

 

How does my student get their mailbox number?

If your student lives on campus they will receive their mailbox number in their on campus housing assignment through the mail. Your student can also get their mailbox number and information by visiting the on campus post office located in the Fisher University Union and presenting their One Card. 

 

How do I send my student mail or a package?

All students will have a Campus Box # specific to their mailing address.  Just address the package to the student including this number and the post office will hold the package, put a notice in the student’s mail box, and the student will be able to pick up their package at the post office.

Does my student have access to post office services at UNCW?

Yes.  Seahawk Mail is located on the first floor of the Fisher University Union, directly next to the campus mailboxes.  Their services include USPS and Fed Ex mail services, international mail services, domestic money orders, postage stamps, and other special mail services.  Please be aware that Seahawk Mail accepts only cash, Seahawk Buck$, and checks with valid identification.  Visit the Seahawk Mail website for more information.  Back to Top

 

Miscellaneous

Now that my student has been admitted what do I need to do next?

1. Pay the enrollment deposit of $100 to Admissions.

2. Pay the $105 housing deposit to Housing and Residence Life, if your student plans to live on-campus.

3. Register and pay for orientation.

These payments can be made through SeaPort.

Are there ATMs on campus?

There are three ATMs on campus located beside the Warwick Center. The ATMs include Cashpoints, Bank of America and Wachovia.

 

What is FERPA?

FERPA stands for the Family Educations Rights and Privacy Act. The UNCW General Counsel has more information on the Student Records and FERPA website.

 

Will my student's grades be sent home?

No, grades are available to the student through mySeaport.

 

If my student needs to miss a class, what should he/she do?

If a student needs to miss a class they should talk directly to their instructor. If it is an emergency and there is no time to reach the instructor, call the Dean of Students office at 910.962.3119. The Dean's office will contact the student's instructors. The student needs to follow up with the instructor, as the Dean of the Students cannot excuse absences.

 

Does the University have a smoking policy?

Yes.  UNCW has adopted a 25 feet smoking policy. Smoking is prohibited in all UNCW buildings. Smoking is not permitted within 25 feet of any building entrance.  This will be encouraged by the placement of tobacco waste receptacles and appropriate signage. This policy will be enforced through publicity and positive social pressure. Campus community members are encouraged to confront people violating the policy by pointing out where smoking is allowed. In the future, repeat violations may be addressed.  Repeated and flagrant violations could be addressed by the Office of the Dean of Students or Human Resources, if deemed necessary.
