Celebrated Caribbean-American author Jamaica Kincaid is an accomplished novelist and essayist who began as a columnist for The New Yorker. She has since published five novels, a collection of short stories, two essay collections and the long essay, "A Small Place," one of the most outspoken critiques of British colonization in Anglophone literature. Her essay inspired the 2001 documentary, Life & Debt, which explores the impact of economic globalization on developing countries and features a voice-over narration written by Kincaid. Co-sponsored with Student Media, the Graduate School and GSA.
A question and answer session and book signing will follow the lecture.
