Linking Sections

  1. Linked courses are to be used for lectures and labs when the lab has been assigned zero credit hours.
  2. From SSASECT, place the cursor in the Link Identifier field.

  3. A section that is a lecture can have a recommended link identifier of LC.  A section that is a lab can have a recommended link identifier of LB.  The above example shows a Biology section that is a lecture, so the link identifier is LC.  All labs that correspond with this section will have the same course number, a different section number, a different Schedule type and a link identifier of LB.
  4. Enter LC in the Link Identifier field.
  5. Perform a SAVE/COMMIT (F10) after entering the link identifier on the lecture.
  6. Next access Course Section Detail (SSADETL) form from the Options menu and Next Block.

Note:  Remember the key block information from the last section will follow you to the next form.

  7. The course number for the lecture should now be in the key block on SSADETL.  Enter the block and enter a LB in the Section Links Link Connector field.  This links the lab to the lecture.
  8. Perform a SAVE/COMMIT (F10).
Note:  It may be helpful to write down the CRN for later use.
  9. Return to the SSASECT and enter the Course Reference Number for the lab.

  14. Perform a SAVE/COMMIT (F10).
The LB/LC section link codes cannot be used if you plan to link specific CRNs together.  LB/LC allows students to choose a combination that fits their schedule.

The Registrar’s Office should be consulted if you wish to connect specific CRNs.  Remove all LB/LC connections for the respective courses, prior to contacting the Registrar’s Office.

Education often connects based on CRN, not link codes.
